Kuyt: Dirk Kuyt’s impressive scoring form continued for Feyenoord yesterday as the Rotterdam club beat Heracles 3-0 at home to return to second place in the Dutch league. The 35-year-old Kuyt increased his league tally to 12 goals, one behind leading scorer Luuk de Jong, of PSV. Kuyt scored Feyenoord’s second goal after Eljero Elia had handed them a first-half lead.

Menezes: Former Brazil manager Mano Menezes became the latest big-name coach to move to China yesterday when he signed a deal with Shandong Luneng, his club Cruzeiro said. Menezes is the third former Brazil coach to head to China this year. He joins Luiz Felipe Scolari, who took Guangzhou Evergrande to the Super League title this year, and Vanderlei Luxemburgo who is at Tianjin Songjiang.

Fan dies: A Valencia fan at the Mestalla died of a heart attack on Saturday. Valencia, who drew 1-1 with Barcelona, passed on their condolences to the family of the supporter who was taken to hospital but died later. “Valencia CF lament the irreparable loss of a fan after the match in Mestalla,” Valencia said. “The club shares the pain of all their loved ones.”

Beckham: Major League Soccer has given its backing to David Beckham’s proposed stadium site for his planned expansion team in Miami. To go ahead with development, Beckham needed the approval of MLS and got that yesterday. “We are very supportive of Miami Beckham United’s plans to locate their stadium in the City of Miami’s Overtown neighbourhood,” said MLS commissioner Don Garber.

Clough: Nigel Clough is set to be unveiled as Burton’s new manager today after agreeing to return for a second spell as manager. The 49-year-old has been out of football since leaving Sheffield United in the summer and had been linked with the post at Chesterfield. But following Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s departure to QPR, Clough was installed as the favourite to return at the Pirelli Stadium and is set to be unveiled today.

Sacked: Gambia have sacked Swiss coach Raoul Savoy after six months in charge. Savoy did not win any of his seven matches after being appointed in May and Gambia suffered an early exit in the World Cup qualifiers after losing to Namibia over two legs last month.
