Friendly venue: Spain have announced that their international friendly against England on November 13 will now be played in Alicante. Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium was set to host the match but the Spanish Football Federation has now confirmed the Jose Rico Perez stadium will instead be the venue for the 24th encounter between the two countries. The match will only go ahead if Spain qualify directly for Euro 2016.

Rooney’s night: There has been an increase in ticket sales for England’s game against Switzerland for a potentially record-breaking night for Wayne Rooney who equalled Bobby Charlton’s 49-goal record with a penalty in Saturday’s 6-0 win over San Marino. After watching Rooney score his 49th goal on Saturday, some fans are eager to be there in case the history books are re-written. Yesterday, around 60,000 tickets had been sold.

Aussie date: Asian champions Australia will play their fifth opening round World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan in Canberra on November 12. The Socceroos, who won their opening two qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh and face Tajikistan in their third tomorrow, will play their first match in the national capital for four years.

Soccer bridge: South Korea’s soccer chief Chung Mong-gyu will discuss reviving cross-border internationals with his North Korea counterparts on a visit to Pyongyang later this month. Relations between the states, technically at war since the 1950s, reached crisis point at the end of last month before a deal was struck to end a tense military stand-off. While teams of both genders have met when drawn against each other at various tournaments and in qualifying campaigns, the last friendly took place in 2005.

Norwich: Norwich defender Harry Toffolo has signed a new two-year deal, extending his Carrow Road stay until at least 2017. Toffolo, 20, spent last season on loan at Swindon and made his debut for the Canaries last month at Rotherham.
