Alenichev: Dmitry Alenichev has been appointed head coach of Spartak Moscow, the Russian Premier League club has announced. The terms of the contract with the 42 year-old, a former Spartak captain, were not revealed. Alenichev replaces Murat Yakin who was sacked after the Red and Whites finished sixth in the Russian Premier League.

No injuries: Ireland boss Martin O’Neill and assistant Roy Keane were involved in a road traffic accident but not seriously hurt on Tuesday. The FA of Ireland announced the incident in a post on its Twitter feed, and a team spokesperson confirmed all involved avoided serious injury and were able to return to the team hotel. The accident comes ahead of the Republic’s Euro 2016 qualifying match against Scotland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Leeds: Neil Redfearn has opted to return to his former role as the head of Leeds’ academy after being overlooked for the head coach’s job. The 49-year-old guided Leeds to Championship safety last season but despite that owner Massimo Cellino opted to appoint Uwe Rosler and not Redfearn as the club’s boss. Redfearn said: “My contract had said that if I wasn’t offered the (head) coaching job, then I will go back to being the academy manager. That is what will be happening and I will go back as it stands at the moment.”

Banned: Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston will serve a six-week ban from all football activity for the text-message exchange in which he branded one supporter “a retard”. The FA has levied sanctions on Oyston for the ‘abusive and insulting text messages’ he sent Seasiders fan Stephen Smith back in November and which emerged in the public domain one month later. Oyston’s attempt to have the charge dismissed on account of the fact it was a private matter was rebuked in May and he will now begin a ban on July 8 until August 18.

Obiang: West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Spain Under-21 midfielder Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old is the first player to join the Irons since the announcement of Slaven Bilic as the east London club’s new manager on Tuesday. Obiang made 35 appearances for Samp last season, scoring three goals.
