Niguez: Highly-rated Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has signed a new five-year contract. The homegrown 20-year-old, who has been linked with Manchester United, has enjoyed a big breakthrough season at the Vicente Calderon after spending last term on loan at Rayo Vallecano.

Ujah: Cologne striker Anthony Ujah, who scored 10 goals in the Bundesliga this season to make sure the promoted club are all but assured of another year in the top flight, has agreed to join Werder Bremen. The 24-year-old Nigeria international, who initially joined on loan in 2012 from Mainz 05, asked for the transfer himself.

New ground: QPR have submitted a revised planning application to build a new training ground at Warren Farm in Ealing, the club have announced. QPR hope to get the green light for the fresh design after encountering problems since the scheme received approval in 2013. A decision regarding planning consent is expected in the summer.

Soto: Mainz midfielder Elkin Soto has expressed his gratitude for the many get-well messages he has received since seriously injuring his knee at the weekend. The 34-year-old’s career could be over after he tore a combination of anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments as well as his meniscus during a tackle with Hamburg’s Rafael van der Vaart on Sunday. “I do wonder why there is so much sympathy for me,” he said. “It really makes me so proud that my work has made an impression in your hearts.”

McGarvey: Ex-Celtic star Frank McGarvey is to auction his 1985 Scottish Cup final-winning jersey in aid of Glasgow food banks. McGarvey wore the shirt when he headed in the famous late winner in the 2-1 victory over Dundee United at Hampden Park. It was the last time the striker wore the hoops as he signed for St Mirren that summer. Now he will use his prized possession to raise money to help those in need.
