Saul: Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has recovered from a painful blow to the kidneys and will start for the champions in today’s La Liga game at bottom side Cordoba, coach Diego Simeone said. Saul sustained the injury in the Champions League defeat at Bayer Leverkusen at the end of February and had to remain behind in Germany for treatment after the game.

Van Persie: Robin van Persie has been ruled out of Manchester United’s Premier League match against Aston Villa today. Van Persie has not played for United since he suffered an ankle injury in the 2-1 defeat to Swansea on February 21. It was expected he would return this weekend after the international break, but manager Louis van Gaal said the striker is still not match fit.

Lloris: Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will miss tomorrow’s Premier League trip to struggling Burnley as he recovers from a gashed knee suffered two weeks ago against Leicester City. The France international was carried off on a stretcher early in the 4-3 win against Leicester City and missed his country’s friendlies against Brazil and Denmark. “Hugo Lloris is still recovering after his problem against Leicester,” Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said.

Red Card: Internacional managed to beat Ypiranga in a Brazilian championship match this week even though defender Fabricio was sent off for making obscene gestures to his own fans who were booing him. Fabricio was abused 18 minutes into the second half and in the middle of a dribble, he stopped in his tracks, headed for the touchline and raised both his middle fingers to home fans. The 28-year old was sent off and when the Inter fans cheered his departure he ripped off his shirt.

Perth Probe: A-League title challengers Perth Glory are being investigated by Football Federation Australia for alleged breaches of salary cap rules and face heavy sanctions if found guilty. Glory, fourth in the table, face a loss of points and possibly a heavy fine if found guilty of breaking the A$2.55 million ($1.93m) cap.

Trica Goes: Cluj coach Eugen Trica has quit the debt-ridden club after going three months without a win, the triple Romanian champions said. His departure came a day after city rivals Universitatea Cluj ended their hopes of landing a fourth Romanian Cup since 2008 with a 4-2 shootout win in the semis.
