West Ham fined: West Ham have been fined £30,000 by the Football Association for failing to control their players in the recent draw at Southampton. The incident in question occurred after referee Craig Pawson sent off Hammers goalkeeper Adrian just after the hour mark for handling the ball outside of his penalty area. Although the Spaniard’s red card was later overturned on appeal, the FA has announced the club have been punished for the players’ reaction.
Bellarabi: Bayer Leverkusen winger Karim Bellarabi signed a three-year contract extension yesterday that will keep the Germany international at the Bundesliga club until 2020. The speedy 24-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Eintracht Braunschweig, has played in all 21 league games this term, scoring nine goals.
Goal award: Eleven-year-old Celtic fan Jay Beatty was the overwhelming winner of the Scottish Premiership’s goal of the month award for January after he scored a penalty during half-time of the champions’ match at Academical. Jay, who has Down’s Syndrome, received 97 per cent of fans’ votes after he scored to rapturous applause from home and away supporters on a VIP trip to see his team’s 2-0 win over Hamilton on Jan. 17.
