Zarate: Argentine striker Mauro Zarate could make his debut for Premier League strugglers Queens Park Rangers this weekend after joining on loan from West Ham United yesterday. The 27-year-old has moved across London for the rest of the season and is in line to play against Burnley in the Premier League.

West Brom: West Brom have appointed Dave Kemp and Paul Jewell to Tony Pulis’s new backroom team. Hawthorns head coach Pulis worked with Kemp at Stoke and Crystal Palace and Jewell joins him as a joint assistant head coach. The Baggies are also in talks with a new goalkeeping coach and reports said ex-Stoke keeper Carlo Nash is set for the role.

Honest admission: Poland centre-back Lukasz Szukala says he turned down offers from England and Germany to join Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad from Steaua Bucharest because the money was too good to refuse. Szukala signed a two-year contract and did not bother with the footballer’s common claim that he was moving for the “challenge”. “I had offers from Germany and England, but the financial conditions offered by Al Ittihad were fantastic,” said the 30-year-old.

Hot weather: Extreme heat in Western Australia led to unhappy players vomiting and suffering excessive weight loss during a top of the table A-League clash on Monday. Perth Glory have since requested for later kick-off times after the 2-1 home loss to Adelaide United was played out in 39 degrees temperatures. “Some players have since reported heat illnesses,” Professional Footballers Australia chief Adam Vivian said. “The PFA will be conducting further discussions with Football Federation Australia and the clubs.”

Ben Youssef: Metz have signed Tunisian striker Fakhreddine Ben Youssef, the Ligue 1 strugglers have confirmed. Ben Youssef, 23, will arrive from CS Sfaxien after competing in this month’s African Nations Cup with his country. He was named 2013’s Tunisian player of the year. Ben Youssef will be tasked with pepping up an attack which has produced only 17 goals in 19 games.
