Elia: Southampton have agreed to sign Werder Bremen’s Netherlands winger Eljero Elia on loan until the end of the season. “The winger will officially join Saints on January 3, initially on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer next summer,” the club said. The 27-year-old Elia will provide cover for England forward Jay Rodriguez, who has been sidelined by cruciate knee ligament surgery, and Senegal winger Sadio Mane who is heading to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Celtic: Charlie Mulgrew and Jason Denayer remain out of the Celtic squad for today’s visit of Ross County in the Premiership. Midfielder Mulgrew has a knee injury while defender Denayer is suffering from a foot complaint. Aleksandar Tonev is still serving his seven-match ban for racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan.

A-League: Perth Glory are six points clear at the top of the A-League after a 1-1 draw at Melbourne City. Richard Garcia’s 62nd-minute goal earned them the point, with Aaron Mooy having put the home side ahead just after the break. Adelaide United are their nearest challengers after a 3-0 win at Sydney FC.

Heskey: Former England forward Emile Heskey has agreed a short-term deal with Bolton, the Championship club said. Heskey, 36, had been training with the second tier club and impressed manager Neil Lennon, who signed former Bolton forward Eidur Gudjohnsen on a free earlier this month. Heskey, who represented England 62 times, has been without a club since ending a stint with Australian side Newcastle Jets.

Build-up: The national team of Ebola-hit Guinea will prepare for next month’s African Nations Cup finals in Morocco, the country that decided not to host the tournament for fear of the spread of the deadly virus. The Guinea Federation said the side will play Morocco’s U-23 side in El Jadida on Jan. 10 and Senegal in Casablanca three days later.
