Silva: Manchester City midfielder David Silva will miss tomorrow’s derby against Manchester United and faces up to four weeks out with a knee injury. Silva was hurt in the early stages of Wednesday night’s 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United in the League Cup as he tangled awkwardly with Ryan Taylor.

Girard: Lille head coach Rene Girard has been suspended from match-day duties for four games by the French football league after being sent to the stands for the second time this season. The 60-year-old was banished during the Ligue 1 match against Lyon on October 5, after protesting vigorously to referee Clement Turpin against the first goal of Alexandre Lacazette’s hat-trick in a 3-0 defeat for Lille, claiming for offside.

Wilshere: Jack Wilshere is likely to miss Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Burnley today because of a knee injury. Gunners manager Arsene Wenger insists the problem is minor, but his participation against Anderlecht in Tuesday’s Champions League tie at the Emirates Stadium is also in doubt. Wenger said: “It’s very, very short term. Jack took a kick on his knee. I don’t know if Tuesday will be too early or not. He’s not training at the moment.”

Fernandez: Swansea defender Federico Fernandez has had his red card against Liverpool in midweek rescinded. The Argentine was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Philippe Coutinho during stoppage-time in the 2-1 League Cup defeat at Anfield. The tackle was deemed as serious foul play and Fernandez faced a three-match ban. Swansea appealed against the decision and video evidence and a FA appeals panel overturned the red card.

Meyiwa: A suspect in the killing of the captain of South Africa’s national team has been arrested, a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority said yesterday. Nathi Mncube said the suspect, Zanokuhle Mbatha, had made a brief appearance in the Boksburg Magistrate court east of Johannesburg. The case was postponed until Nov. 11. National soccer star Senzo Meyiwa was hit by a single round in the chest on Sunday night while confronting two intruders at the home of his girlfriend, actress and singer Kelly Khumalo.
