Supercoppa: Serie A champions Juventus will take on Coppa Italia winners Napoli in the Italian Super Cup in Doha on December 22. For the first time the tie will be staged in December and not in August while the game will be played for the seventh occasion on foreign soil. The past three SuperCoppa matches were played in Beijing.

Elected: Former World Cup winners Romario and Bebeto were among the Brazilian footballers elected to parliament in elections last weekend. Romario, who was a deputy in the lower house, was elected Senator for Rio de Janeiro with 63 per cent of the votes cast, while Bebeto, his striking partner when Brazil won the World Cup in 1994, was re-elected as a state deputy.

Superclasico: Leaders River Plate were held to a 1-1 draw by Boca Juniors in atrocious conditions on a waterlogged Monumental pitch in Argentina’s “Superclasico” on Sunday. Both goals were scored by central defenders, Boca taking the lead through Lisandro Magallan in the first half. River, whose striker Rodrigo Mora blasted a penalty over the bar, equalised 12 minutes from the end through substitute German Pez-zella to the joy and relief of the home support in a 60,000 crowd.

Verhaegh: Paul Verhaegh has been called up to the Netherlands squad to replace an injured Daryl Janmaat for the Euro 2016 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Iceland over the next week. Verhaegh, from Bundesliga club Augsburg, had been in a preliminary squad that coach Guus Hiddink named for the match against the Kazakhs in Amsterdam on Friday and the meeting against Iceland in Reykjavik next Monday but was dropped from the final squad named last week.

Partizan ban: Partizan Belgrade have been ordered to close part of their stadium for their next European home game following trouble at the match against Tottenham last month, including an anti-Semitic banner, UEFA said. The Serbian club were told to close sector K of the FK Partizan stadium and were fined 40,000 euros for the incidents, which UEFA said also included setting off of fireworks, the use of a laser pointer and a pitch invasion by supporters.
