Carroll: Notts County have signed former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll. The 36-year-old Northern Ireland international, a free agent after leaving Greek champions Olympiakos, has put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the League One club. Carroll has been training with Shaun Derry’s men and featured for the Magpies in their friendly matches against Halifax Town and Spanish side Osasuna.

Coach sacked: Spaniard Jose Murcia became Levski Sofia’s 14th coach to quit or be sacked since 2008 when he left the 26-times Bulgarian champions yesterday. The 49-year-old former Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo coach, who took charge at Levski in June, was fired two days after guiding the club to their first league victory this season – a 1-0 win over city rivals Lokomotiv. Murcia will be replaced by Levski’s sporting director Georgi Ivanov, twice Bulgarian Footballer of the Year.

Ideye: West Brom’s club-record signing Brown Ideye will finally link up with his new Baggies team-mates this week after confirming his visa issues have been resolved. Nigeria striker Ideye signed for Albion just over a fortnight ago for a fee believed to be around £10 million, but has been forced to wait in his homeland whilst the matter was cleared. But via his Twitter account the former Dynamo Kiev forward said: “My Visa has been issued. Will join the team ASAP.”

Rangers: Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller are in line to make their Rangers returns tonight when the Ibrox side host Hibernian in the Challenge Cup. The former Scotland strikers have re-signed with Ally McCoist’s team this summer and could make their second Light Blues debuts alongside fellow new recruits Darren McGregor and Marius Zaliukas.

Papadopoulos: Bayer Lever-kusen have signed Greece de-fender Kyriakos Papadopoulos on a season-long loan from Bundesliga rivals Schalke. The 22-year-old is highly rated but has seen his progress slowed by injuries and made just four appearances for the Royal Blues last season before missing his country’s World Cup campaign.

Hudson: Englishman Anthony Hudson is set to be announced as the new coach of New Zealand’s national soccer team after walking out on Bahrain last week. The 33-year-old’s departure left Bahrain’s preparations for January’s Asian Cup in disarray and the Gulf state’s football association said they would challenge his exit through the courts.
