Benfica: Benfica completed a domestic treble when they beat Rio Ave 1-0 in the Portuguese Cup final last night. Argentine midfielder Nicolas Gaitan scored the winner in the first half while Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak rescued Benfica in the second. Benfica, beaten on penalties by Sevilla in Wednesday’s Europa League final, had already won this season’s league and the League Cup in which they also beat Rio Ave in the final.

Belgian champs: Anderlecht were crowned Belgian champions for the 33rd time after a 3-1 victory over Lokeren was sufficient to pip rivals Standard Liege to the title on the final day of the season yesterday. Anderlecht finished the 10-game play-offs two points ahead of Standard who beat Racing Genk 1-0 at home.

Stocker: Hertha Berlin have won the race to sign coveted Swiss midfielder Valentin Stocker from Basel, taking him on a four-year contract from next season. A fee of around five million euros is reported to have been agreed between the two clubs for the Switzerland international, who made 175 appearances in the Swiss top flight for Basel, scoring 50 goals.

Varese: Varese gave the sack to coach Stefano Sottili and replaced him with Stefano Bettinelli. Varese slid dangerously close to the drop zone in Serie B following Saturday’s 2-1 home loss to Brescia, their seventh defeat in a row. This was the second time that Varese had parted ways with Sottili this season after having replaced him with Carmine Gautieri a few months back.

do Prado: Southampton have released Guly do Prado at the end of his contract. Brazilian Do Prado, 32, scored 23 goals in 118 appearances during four seasons with Saints. The forward helped the club achieve back-to-back promotions to reach the Premier League, but made only 12 first-team appearances this season.

Lampard: Roy Hodgson has announced that midfielder Frank Lampard will be England’s vice-captain at this summer’s World Cup. The 35-year-old Chelsea star, who has won 103 international caps and been named captain six times, was skipper when England were last in Brazil a year ago.

In Scotland: Premier League qualification – Hamilton vs Falkirk 1-0 (agg: 2-1).
