Cabaye: Newcastle have rejected a bid of £14 million from Paris St Germain for Yohan Cabaye. Reports in the UK said that the big-spending French club has finally formalised its interest in the former Lille midfielder, but that the offer was swiftly rebuffed. Speculation has been mounting for weeks that PSG would make a move for the France international this month despite manager Laurent Blanc’s earlier indication that they would not.

Sacked: The captain of English minor league club Goole Town has been sacked for going into the stands and attacking a fan – on the 19th anniversary of Manchester United’s Eric Cantona’s infamous kung-fu kick on a supporter at Selhurst Park. Karl Colley, 30, a former trainee at Newcastle United, reacted to abuse from fans after he was sent off in a Northern Premier League match on Saturday.

Season over: Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his cruciate knee ligament on Saturday and will now undergo surgery, the club said yesterday. The Poland international sustained the injury in the second minute of their 2-2 draw against Augsburg. “I will not roll over that easily,” he said in a statement. “I will do everything to come back even stronger.”

A-League: Western Sydney Warriors moved up to second place in the A-League table with a 3-1 home win over Perth Glory, yesterday. Brendan Santalab, Aaron Mooy and a Mark Bridge penalty saw the Warriors take the points. In another match, Sydney FC thumped Melbourne Victory 5-0 as Alessandro del Piero scored twice. Sydney’s other goals came from Ranko Despotovic, Sebastian Ryall and Nick Carle.

Friendly: South Korea beat Costa Rica 1-0 in Los Angeles yesterday to win the first of three friendlies on their tour of North America as they continue their preparations for the World Cup. Kim Shin-wook scored the only goal in an ill-tempered match in which two Costa Ricans were sent off. It was an encouraging result for South Korea, who were drawn with Belgium, Russia and Algeria in Group H for the World Cup, after they selected a weakened squad for the tour.
