Guedioura: Midfielder Adlene Guedioura will be missing from Crystal Palace’s clash with Everton today after being ruled out for at least six weeks. The Algeria international collided with West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill last weekend, fracturing two ribs and suffering a partly collapsed lung.

Galaxy down: Los Angeles Galaxy’s title defence is over after Real Salt Lake beat them 2-0 in extra-time for a 2-1 aggregate win in the MLS Western Conference semi-finals. Real Salt Lake advance alongside Portland Timbers, who beat Seattle Sounders 3-2 for a 5-3 aggregate win.

Colombia: Outstanding River Plate defender Eder Alvarez Balanta is one of two uncapped players picked by Colombia for their World Cup warm-up games against Belgium and the Netherlands later this month. Central defender Balanta, 20, owes his call-up to the absence through injury of captain Mario Yepes. Coach Jose Pekerman also included forward Victor Ibarbo, of Cagliari, in a 24-man squad.

Heart failure: Western Sydney Wanderers increased the pressure on Melbourne Heart boss John Aloisi with a 1-0 win at AAMI Park yesterday. Heart went into the contest without a win in their opening four games of the new A-League season. Despite an improved display, they were unable to buck the trend as Shannon Cole scored the only goal in the 27th minute. Malta’s Michael Mifsud played all match for Heart.

Vorm: Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm was among five players dropped by the Netherlands from a provisional squad named last month as coach Louis van Gaal yesterday settled on his 23-man selection for two friendlies this month. Vorm is replaced by Fulham’s Marten Stekelenburg, who makes his return after injury.

Hunt: Ipswich have signed winger Stephen Hunt on a short-term contract. The 32-year-old has penned a deal which will keep him at the Suffolk outfit until January.
