BLATTER MOVIE: Actors Tim Roth and Gerard Depardieu have agreed to star in a film about FIFA president Sepp Blatter. The project, being made by a French production company, is due to be released next year. Roth, a 52-year-old Englishman, will play Blatter, a 77-year-old Swiss, while Depardieu will play former FIFA president Jules Rimet, who was among FIFA’s founding fathers.

BROWN: Sunderland defender Wes Brown could make a first competitive appearance for the club in almost 21 months against Newcastle tomorrow. The 34-year-old former Manchester United star is available after ridding himself off a calf injury sustained in pre-season.

COUTINHO: Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho is edging closer to a first-team return after a shoulder operation. The Brazilian has been sidelined since the 2-2 draw at Swansea on September 16 and while Brendan Rodgers does not think he will be ready for today’s visit of West Brom, the Reds boss is eagerly awaiting his comeback. “He might just be short for this weekend,” Rodgers said. “I think, after the weekend, he’ll be fine.”

BANNED: Four players and a coach facing charges related to match-fixing in Australia’s second tier Victorian Premier League have been suspended. The multi-million dollar racket was smashed by the police, who acted on information provided by the Football Federation of Australia (FFA). The FFA has suspended the five Southern Stars individuals under its National Code of Conduct.

RACISM: UEFA president Michel Platini has ordered an internal inquiry to find out why Romanian referee Ovidiu Hategan did not follow UEFA guidelines following alleged racist behaviour during CSKA Moscow’s match against Manchester City on Wednesday. City’s captain Yaya Toure pointed out to the referee what he claimed was racist chanting from CSKA Moscow fans during the Cham-pions League game, but the referee did not follow UEFA’s protocol following such an allegation.
