Goetze: Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Goetze has recovered from the ankle injury he picked up three weeks ago and is expected to join team-mates in training in the coming days, the treble winners said yesterday. Goetze, brought in from Borussia Dortmund for €37 million, has yet to put in a run at Bayern, following a muscle injury in Dortmund’s Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. After recovering in August, he sustained an ankle injury in Bayern’s Super Cup win over Chelsea last month.

Lingard: Manchester United youngster Jesse Lingard has joined Birmingham on a one-month loan, the Championship side announced yesterday. The loan will last until October 20. Birmingham will hope Lingard’s arrival will start a surge up the league with the club in 21st place after a poor start to the season, having taken only four points in their first seven games.

Bruges: Club Bruges have sacked coach Juan Carlos Garrido after just 10 months in charge and following their exit from the qualifying round of the Europa League. The Belgian club, unbeaten in the league, said that the Spaniard and physical conditioning coach Jorge Simo, who also arrived last November, would be leaving the club. Assistant coaches Philippe Clement and Stephan Van der Heyden would take charge until a permanent replacement is named.

Arda: Turkey playmaker Arda Turan has agreed to extend his contract with Atletico Madrid by two years to 2017, the La Liga club said yesterday. The 26-year-old, who has become a huge fan favourite since joining from Galatasaray, helped Atletico win the Europa League, the King’s Cup and the European Super Cup during his first two seasons in the Spanish capital.

Bennett: Norwich winger Elliott Bennett has signed a two-year contract extension, committing him to Carrow Road until the summer of 2016. The 24-year-old is currently recovering from a serious knee injury, sustained on the opening day of the season against Everton. Bennett, who signed from Brighton in 2011 and has made 64 appearances, said: “I’m delighted. Obviously I wasn’t expecting it being injured, but it’s fantastic.”
