Paris SG: Paris St Germain will be without the injured Jeremy Menez and Javier Pastore when they visit Bordeaux in Ligue 1 today, coach Laurent Blanc said. Menez has yet to make an appearance this season as he is struggling for fitness after back surgery while Pastore is suffering from a foot injury.

Fraud Charges: Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote has appeared in court charged with using a false Belgian driving licence. The 27-year-old is also facing charges of making a false statement to obtain car insurance and of fraud, for claiming he was in possession of a genuine Belgian licence. Tiote pleaded not guilty to the three charges.

10-Match Ban: Rangers midfielder Ian Black was given a 10-match ban by a Scottish FA disciplinary tribunal after admitting breaching betting rules. Black will serve an immediate three-game ban and the remaining seven will be suspended until the end of the season.

Jones: Manchester United’s Phil Jones has hit back at Stuart Pearce’s claims he snubbed an England Under-21 call this summer.“I didn’t expect it and I am disappointed,” said Jones. “It is simply not true.”

Cyprus: Cyprus coach Nicos Nioplias has resigned after a spate of disappointing results left his side languishing at the bottom of their World Cup qualifying group. The Cyprus FA said that both sides had reached an “amicable arrangement” for the Greek to leave immediately.

Cape Verde: The fairytale progress of tiny Cape Verde Islands to the last round of African World Cup qualifiers turned into a nightmare yesterday when FIFA found them guilty of fielding an ineligible player and turfed them out of the competition. Their place in the final round play-offs will be taken by Tunisia, who the Cape Verdians had eliminated with a 2-0 win in Tunis.
