Catania: Czech Republic mid-fielder Jaroslav Plasil has left Bordeaux for Catania. The 31-year-old has spent four years with Les Girondins, playing 147 league matches and will now head abroad to Sicily. Plasil, who was appointed Bordeaux captain in 2011, also scored 11 league goals during his time at the French club.

Amalfitano: West Bromwich Albion have secured France international midfielder Morgan Amalfitano on a season-long loan from Olympique Marseille. The 28-year-old has been capped once by his country, and has made 58 league appearances for Marseille, scoring twice. He has also played for Sedan and Lorient.

Crystal Palace: Crystal Palace, favourites to go straight back down to the English Championship, signed Scotland midfielder Barry Bannan from Aston Villa and two other players on transfer deadline day yesterday. Palace said that manager Ian Holloway had swooped for Bannan, Reading central defender Adrian Mariappa and Huddersfield Town right back Jack Hunt.

Helmes: Patrick Helmes will bid to resurrect his career in Ger-many’s second division after returning to his former club Cologne from Wolfsburg. The 29-year-old, who has torn cruciate ligaments twice in his career and has spent much of the last two years sidelined by injury, makes the move to Cologne for an undisclosed fee.

Barnetta: Switzerland mid-fielder Tranquillo Barnetta has joined Eintracht Frankfurt for the rest of the season on loan from Schalke. The 28-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by Royal Blues coach Jens Keller earlier this summer and, after being linked with a move to Italy, has chosen to remain in the Bundesliga with the Eagles.

Razak: Man. City mid-fielder Abdul Razak has joined Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala on a season-long loan. Razak has previously had loan spells with Portsmouth, Brighton and Charl-ton, while the 20-year-old is in line to face Tottenham in the Europa League.

Duarte: Ajax signed Dutch Under-21 international LerinDuarte yesterday from Heracles for an undisclosed fee. Duarte, 23, has signed a four-year deal as Ajax spend some of the €13.5m they received from Tottenham for Christian Eriksen.
