Kone: Lorient defender Lamine Kone has signed a three-year extension to his contract. The 24-year-old, who made 32 Ligue 1 appearances for Christian Gourcuff’s side last season and scored three goals, is now tied to the club until 2017.

Anelka: Summer signing Nicolas Anelka opened his West Brom goal account with a first-half brace in a 3-0 friendly win over Hungarian side Puskas FC Academy late Monday. The former France striker swept home a ninth-minute opener and headed his second in the 27th minute. Graham Dorrans’s 81st-minute penalty rounded off victory for the Baggies in a second half disrupted by a flood of substitutions.

Hibs hero: Former Hibernian striker Lawrie Reilly has died at the age of 84. The Edinburgh-born centre-forward was a member of the Easter Road club’s ‘Famous Five’ forward line alongside Gordon Smith, Bobby Johnstone, Eddie Turnbull and Willie Ormond and helped the side win three league titles in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He was capped 38 times for Scotland and scored five goals against England – more than any other Dark Blues player.

Greco: Serie A newcomers Livorno are showing interest in midfielder Leandro Greco from Greek club Olympiakos. “We are in discussions with Olympiacos. We will have to see how the situation evolves over the next few days and if there are the conditions in place to sign him,” Livorno sporting director Stefano Capozucca said. Greco, 27, joined Olympiakos from Roma last year. He also had stints with Verona, Pisa and Piacenza.

Brown: Celtic captain Scott Brown has been recalled to Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad for next month’s friendly international against England at Wembley. The Dark Blues travel to London for the first time in 14 years and will have Hoops midfielder Brown back in the squad after he missed last month’s World Cup qualifying win over Croatia through injury.

Peruzzi: Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has revealed that Argentinian full-back Gino Peruzzi will not be joining the club after all. Just a day after the 21-year-old’s current employers Velez Sarsfield claimed the deal would go through, the Italian revealed the deal had been put on hold because of a problem revealed by a medical. “At the moment, there is no chance for Gino Peruzzi to join us,” Di Canio said.
