Asamoah: Former Germany international Gerald Asamoah has returned to Schalke, although he is unlikely to add to his 323 Bundesliga appearances next season. The 34-year-old spent 11 years with the Royal Blues before moving to St Pauli in 2010. Schalke have offered him a return to the club this summer, although he will primarily be playing for their reserve team while fulfilling a dual function working in their marketing department.

Busquets: Sergio Busquets has signed a new contract at Bar-celona until June 2019, the club have confirmed. The midfielder, who turned 25 yesterday, has a buyout clause that remains at €150 million. Busquets is an unsung hero of the Barcelona team and has made 238 first-team appearances.

Levski coach: Levski Sofia appointed Serbian Slavisa Jokanovic as head coach. The 44-year-old replaced Nikolay Mitov, who was sacked after Levski were knocked out of Europe’s second-tier club competition by unfancied Kazakhstan side Irtysh Pavlodar 2-0 on aggregate last week. Levski were lambasted by the media after their Europa League exit which fans called “the most shameful failure in the club’s history”.

Gold Cup: Trinidad and Tobago took full advantage of a lacklustre Honduras performance to ad-vance to the Gold Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory in Houston on Monday. Honduras had already secured top spot in the group after victories in their opening two matches. Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones scored a goal and added an assist to lead the way, setting his side on course for the knockout phase when he converted a penalty in the 48th minute.

Al Jazeera: Al Jazeera Sport has bought exclusive media rights to the English Premier League in the Middle East and North Africa for three years starting from next month. Qatar-based Al Jazeera reached agreement for access to all 380 Premier League matches across media platforms and devices in 23 countries from Iran to Morocco, taking in the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.
