Montanier: Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennes have appointed Philippe Montanier as their new head coach for next season after the Frenchman turned down a contract extension with La Liga’s Real Sociedad. The 48-year-old Montanier will replace Frederic Antonetti, who said he was stepping down after four seasons with Stade Rennes.

Moratti: Inter president Massimo Moratti dropped a clear hint yesterday that he might backtrack on his promise to keep Andrea Stramaccioni as coach, saying he was “reflecting” on what was best for the club. “I don’t like to say that it’s the end of an era but we are having another look at the recent events,” Moratti told reporters outside his office.

U-21 title: Manchester United completed a second-half comeback to win the inaugural Premier League Under-21 title with a 3-2 win over Tottenham. Griffiths: On-loan Hibernian striker Leigh Griffiths has been rewarded for his impressive form with a call-up to the Scotland national squad for the World Cup qualifier against Croatia. Griffiths – who made his debut in a friendly international against Luxembourg – forced his way into Gordon Strachan’s plans for the match in Zagreb on June 7.

Rat: West Ham United have signed Romania captain Razvan Rat on a free transfer. The left-back joins on an extendable one-year deal after his contract at Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk came to an end. The 31-year-old has 88 caps for Romania and won seven Ukrainian titles as well as the UEFA Cup during his time in Donetsk.
