Perrin: St Etienne captain Loic Perrin has been ruled out for 10 days with a thigh injury. Defender Perrin suffered the injury warming up ahead of fourth-placed St Etienne’s league game at Lyon, which ended in a 1-1 draw last Sunday. St Etienne have 58 points and are two behind third-placed Lyon who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot with four games left.

Deco: Former Chelsea and Portugal midfielder Deco has failed a doping test in Brazil. The 35-year-old Fluminense player was tested after the club’s match with Boavista last month and his sample was found to contain traces of furo-semide, a diuretic which is banned as it can be used to mask other substances. Deco has been left out of Fluminense’s squad for today’s Copa Libertadores tie against Emelec.

Old firm: Police say they are studying CCTV footage from a ground where three fans were arrested at a youth cup final between Rangers and Celtic on Tuesday. The U-17s fixture at Firhill Park was the first meeting of the Old Firm since Rangers were relegated to the Third Division. Kick-off was reportedly delayed as flares were lit and fans invaded the pitch. Rangers won 3-2.

Conmebol: Uruguayan Eugenio Figueredo was officially appointed president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) in succession to Nicolas Leoz yesterday. Figueredo, 81, had been named last week as automatic successor to Paraguayan Leoz, who quit citing health reasons. The 84-year-old Leoz resigned a week before FIFA’s ethics committee revealed on Tuesday that he had received kick-backs from ISL which went bankrupt in 2001.
