BRUNO JAILED: Former goalkeeper Bruno has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for the murder of his ex-lover. Reports have said her body was fed to dogs. The jury’s verdict on the death of victim Eliza Samudio was read out by Judge Marixa Fabiane Lopes Rodrigues yesterday.

IRELAND: Defenders Seamus Coleman and Marc Wilson have been included in Giovanni Trapattoni’s Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria but Richard Dunne misses out. Aston Villa defender Dunne has not played all season due to a groin injury. Wilson has only played two games for Stoke in his comeback from four months out but has made Trapattoni’s squad for the matches against Sweden on March 22 and Austria four days later.

BOCA LOSE: Boca Juniors continued their stuttering start to the year under multiple title-winning coach Carlos Bianchi with a 1-0 loss to Uruguay’s Nacional in a clash of former Libertadores Cup champions at La Bombonera on Thursday. Central defender Andres Scotti headed the only goal from a corner midway through the first half.

ZWARTKRUIS: Former Dutch national coach Jan Zwartkruis has died at the age of 87. He became coach of the Dutch team after the 1976 Euro finals and went to the 1978 World Cup in Argentina as assistant coach to Ernst Happel. After the World Cup, Zwartkruis became head coach again and led Holland into the 1980 Euro finals.

QPR: QPR’s shirts will continue to carry with the AirAsia logo next season after a new sponsorship deal was agreed. The Malaysian airline will once again be on the front of the west Londoners’ home, away and third strips in the 2013/14 season. AirAsia have worked closely with QPR since the airline’s chief executive officer, Tony Fernandes, became chairman in August 2011.

MARTINS: Nigeria have recalled striker Obafemi Martins for their World Cup qualifier against Kenya after leaving him out of their Africa Nations Cup campaign. Martins was one of four players added to the squad for the match in Calabar on March 23.
