Drogba: Didier Drogba wasted no time announcing his arrival in Turkish football as he struck the opening goal in Galatasaray’s 2-1 win at Akhisar Belediye last night. The former Marseille and Chelsea striker, who joined Gala this month following an ill-fated spell at Shanghai Shenhua, came on for his debut as a 63rd-minute substitute and needed just five minutes to break the deadlock with a well-placed header.

Blackburn: Tottenham flop David Bentley rejoined former club Blackburn on loan yesterday and Manchester City’s Dutch teenager Karim Rekik has also moved to the English second tier side on a short-term deal. Winger Bentley was Tottenham’s record signing when he arrived from Blackburn for £17 million in 2008 but failed to make any impact at White Hart Lane and has spent loan spells at Birmingham City, West Ham United and Russia’s FC Rostov.

Heskey: Goals from Emile Heskey and Ryan Griffiths helped the Newcastle Jets leap back into the A-League top six with a 2-0 win over Melbourne Heart at Hunter Stadium yesterday. Heskey opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a wonderful strike before Griffiths sealed the win with a smart goal 10 minutes from the final whistle.

Flores: Defender Chico Flores will miss Swansea’s trip to face Liverpool in a league match at Anfield tomorrow after rupturing ankle ligaments against QPR. Kyle Bartley or club captain Garry Monk will get the chance to step into the Spaniard’s shoes and stake a claim for a place ahead of the League Cup final.

Villa: Barcelona striker David Villa has been discharged from hospital a day after he was re-admitted because of continued pain from kidney stones, his club have confirmed. The 31-year-old went into hospital for the first time to have the stones removed on Monday and was released a day later, only to return on Thursday to be kept under observation. He remains out of today’s league game against Granada.

League One: Tranmere Rovers vs Shrewsbury 0-2.
