1872 RE-MATCH: Royal Engineers finally avenged their defeat by The Wanderers in the inaugural 1872 FA Cup final when they beat them 7-1 in a re-enactment of the game at The Oval on Wednesday. The match, played at the FA Cup Final’s original home where 20 of the first 21 finals were staged, was in aid of various UK charities.

BALLACK: Former Germany captain Michael Ballack has been banned from driving for 18 months and fined €6,750 after he was clocked speeding at 211 kilometres per hour on a Spanish highway in October. The 36-year-old former Bayern Munich and Chelsea midfielder, who an-nounced his retirement a couple of weeks before the incident, was driving his Audi Q7 at almost twice the speed limit, according to the ruling by a court in Caceres.

FANS RAPPED: Struggling Polish club Podbeskidzie have blasted a group of fans who hurled racist abuse at a rival team’s players. “The Podbeskidzie board strongly and unequivocally condemns racism and any other form of discri-mination,” the club said in a statement. A group of fans abused Lechia striker Abdou Razack Traore, who is from Burkina Faso, and the visitors’ Brazilian mid-fielder Ricardinho.

MANCIENNE: Hamburg will be almost certainly be without central defender Michael Mancienne when they take on Freiburg tomorrow after the English player missed training this week through illness, coach Thorsten Fink said. Hamburg, eager to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat by Bayern Munich last week, will most likely replace the former Chelsea player with Paul Scharner, Fink told reporters.
