VIDIC: Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic could be out of action until Christmas. Vidic was ruled out for eight weeks after undergoing knee surgery in September. However, suggestions the 31-year-old could return to action this month appear to have been optimistic, with Alex Ferguson saying: “I think we’re talking around December for Vidic. Maybe around Christmas time.”

DE CARVALHO: Roger De Carvalho, the Bologna defender, fractured his jaw during a training ground exercise on Thursday. The players were practising tactics when Carvalho accidentally collided with a team-mate. X-Rays showed he hurt his jaw and will go under the knife to stabilise the injury .

TOPRAK: Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak is fit to face Fortuna Duesseldorf tomorrow despite breaking his nose in their 3-2 German cup second round win over Arminia Bielefeld in midweek, coach Sami Hyypia said. “I have played a few times with a broken nose,” said Hyypia.

GALAXY: A 73rd minute Landon Donovan penalty gave LA Galaxy a 2-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS play-offs, earning them a place in the Western Conference semi-finals against San Jose Earthquakes. The Galaxy had to come from behind though to beat the first Canadian team to feature in the MLS post-season.

WALKER: Kyle Walker has vowed to re-open the Twitter account he closed after receiving criticism for his performances last month. The Spurs defender shut his account after becoming angry at those who had hit out at his poor showing in Tottenham’s 4-2 home defeat to Chelsea 13 days ago. “I will be back on it shortly,” Walker said. “I just thought with my form it was time to concentrate on my football rather than tweeting.”
