Bus trip: Greece’s financial crisis has forced teams to be more conservative when travelling with Veria making an 800km trip by bus to play their weekend match. The northern team travelled by bus to southern Tripolis on Sunday to play Asteras and they also avoided staying at a hotel overnight by returning straight after the match. That meant leaving early in the morning for the eight-and-a-half hour drive to reach Tripolis, losing to Asteras 3-0 and then getting back on the bus for the return trip, a total of 17 hours in transit.

Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich defender Daniel van Buyten has been ruled out of their Champions League game at Lille due to a rib injury, the club said yesterday. While the Belgian did not travel with the team, coach Jupp Heynckes has forward Claudio Pizzaro at his disposal again as he was rested for Bayern's 5-0 win at Duesseldorf.

Piszczek: Borussia Dortmund right back Lukasz Piszczek has extended his contract with the German champions until 2017, describing the club as “extraordinary”. “I have been playing here for two years and in that time I have grown close with the football culture here,” he said.

Australia: Australia will play South Korea in a friendly next month as part of their preparations for their World Cup qualifying campaign. The Socceroos will meet their fellow Asian powerhouse at Hwaseong in S. Korea on Nov. 14.

Serie B: Bari vs Brescia 1-1.

Primera Liga: Played on Sunday - Sociedad vs A. Madrid 0-1.
