Meppen-Walter: Manchester City footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two people died in a collision Saturday night. The 18-year-old was arrested after a Mercedes and a Nissan Micra collided in north Manchester, leaving a 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman dead and two teenagers, believed to be 15 and 16, with serious head injuries.

Wolfsburg: Ten-man Wolfsburg suffered their worst Bundesliga home defeat this century after they were routed 4-0 by Hanover yesterday. Felix Magath-coached Wolves were put to the sword by a rampant Hanover team as the 2009 German champions suffered their worst defeat in Wolfsburg since they were hammered 7-2 at home to Werder Bremen in September 1999.

Boateng: Milan’s Kevin Prince Boateng will undergo an operation on a fractured bone in his right hand. The German-born Ghanaian suffered the injury in Milan’s 3-1 win away to Bologna on Saturday. ANSA news agency said Milan will wait until after the operation before announcing whether and for how long Boateng will be sidelined.

Nouioui: Tunisia international Lassad Nouioui has joined Celtic on a two-year deal, the Parkhead club have announced. The 26-year-old is the most recent addition to Neil Lennon’s squad, following the arrival of defender Efe Ambrose, striker Miku Fedor and goalkeeper Lubos Kamenar. Nouioui spent the last three years with Deportivo La Coruna.

Sundhage: Pia Sundhage is to take over as coach of the Swedish women’s national side, moving over from the US who she guided to Olympic gold in London. The 52-year-old announced that she was leaving the US job she had filled for five years late Saturday after her team trounced Costa Rica 8-0 in a friendly in Rochester, New York state.

Pienaar: South Africa captain Steven Pienaar has withdrawn from a friendly against Brazil in Sao Paulo on Friday after pulling a thigh muscle playing for Everton at the weekend. The match between the 2010 and 2014 World Cup hosts marks the debut of coach Gordon Igesund as South Africa coach after leading a record four clubs to the South African Premiership title.
