Dempsey: Fulham have made an official complaint over Liverpool’s pursuit of Clint Dempsey. Cottagers manager Martin Jol is dismayed by the conduct of Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, who last month publicly expressed his interest in the American forward. Dempsey will once again be missing from Fulham’s squad when they travel to Manchester United tomorrow.

Heitinga: Everton defender John Heitinga is determined to stay at the club and fight for his first-team place. There has been some speculation about the 28-year-old’s future over the summer but despite seemingly being behind Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin to play at centre-back he is not looking for a way out. “I will fight for my position and stay at Everton,” said Heitinga.

Pereira: Serie A club Inter have agreed a deal with Porto for Uruguayan international defender Alvaro Pereira, the Portuguese champions said yesterday. Porto said the Italians will pay €10 million but that with add-ons the deal could reach €15 million for the 26-year-old.

Cerci: Torino have signed Alessio Cerci from Fiorentina on a co-ownership deal ahead of the new Serie A season. The winger, 25, made his league debut for Roma aged just 16 before moving to the Stadio Artemio Franchi in 2010. Cerci scored 12 goals in 46 appearances in two seasons with the Viola.

WCup 2018: Russia has dropped plans to extend its existing high-speed rail links to 2018 World Cup host cities because of budget constraints, a newspaper report said yesterday. The highly-publicised initiative had represented one of the planks of President Vladimir Putin’s promise to use the football tournament to revitalise Russia’s far-flung regions and gain long-term benefits from the costly event.

Krohn-Dehli: Promoted Celta Vigo have signed Denmark winger Michael Krohn-Dehli. The 29-year-old international scored two goals at Euro 2012 including the one that gave Denmark a surprise 1-0 win over World Cup finalists the Netherlands in their group opener. Krohn-Dehli moves from Brondby and has had two unsuccessful spells with Ajax Amsterdam.
