Di Vaio got his first MLS goal in the 48th minute and there were also strikes from Davy Arnaud and Sanna Nyassi. Thierry Henry scored his 11th goal of the season before Nyassi secured the win for Montreal in the 74th minute which dented New York’s title hopes in the Eastern Conference.

Morosini match: Atalanta beat Serie A rivals Udinese 1-0 in a special friendly late Saturday in memory of Piermario Morosini who died after a heart failure while playing for Livorno in a Serie B match last season. The goal that mattered came late in the match when veteran Simone Tiribocchi headed home the winner.

Pompey: Erik Huseklepp has made the switch from Portsmouth back to former club SK Brann to leave the club with just four senior professionals on their books. The winger, who made 28 appearances for Pompey after signing from Bari last summer, has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal. Messi: Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova hailed the impact of Lionel Messi in his first game of pre-season after the Catalans ran out 8-0 winners over Raja Casablanca in Tangier yesterday. The Argentinian scored a first-half hat-trick and combined to set up Alexis Sanchez twice as Barca raced into a 5-0 lead at the break. Vilanova said: “When you have the world’s best player, who has this capacity to score goals, he usually marks the difference. He proved it once again.”

Lazio: Lazio have left Francelino Matuzalem, Giuseppe Sculli and Pasquale Foggia out of their pre-season training camp, increasing speculation that they are set to leave the Serie A club. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the three players have been told they are not needed at the camp in Fiuggi from August 4.
