BUTTNER: Southampton have agreed a deal with Vitesse Arnhem to sign defender Alexander Buttner. The 23-year-old has been regularly linked with a move away from the Eredivisie club this summer, with Fulham, QPR and Werder Bremen among those interested. However, Buttner was keen to join South-ampton and a deal was agreed.

GYAN: Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan completed a permanent move to United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain. The 26-year-old Ghana international has sealed a transfer on undisclosed terms. Al-Ain are reported to have paid £6 million to secure his services on a long-term basis.

BURTON: Arsenal have confirmed Terry Burton as the club’s new reserves and head development coach. Burton rejoins the Gunners backroom staff following the retirement of assistant manager Pat Rice at the end of last season.

RAMIS: Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis has set his sights on a move to the Premier League. The 27-year-old centre-back has been linked with Aston Villa and Sunderland. He said: “This could be the ideal moment to make a change and the Premier League is a destination that appeals because I like the football there.”

A-LEAGUE: Football Federation Australia said it had recruited Cricket Australia administrator Damien de Bohun as the new head of the domestic A-League competition. De Bohun takes over from Lyall Gorman, who is now in charge of the new A-League club Western Sydney .

LUIS: Atletico Madrid wing-back Filipe Luis has agreed a contract extension that ties him to the club until June 30, 2017. The Brazil international joined Atletico from Deportivo La Coruna in 2010 and has played 88 official games for the Rojiblancos.

Small Nations Championship SF – Andorra vs Malta 75-65 (12-23, 21-18, 19-15, 23-9).

Malta threw away an eight-point lead at the half-way mark as Andorra came from behind to book their place in today’s final. Today, Malta will contest the bronze medal play-off against the losers of the other semi-final between San Marino and Moldova.

Malta’s Josh Jackson was the leading scorer with 25 points.
