Allegri: Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has thanked club owner Silvio Berlusconi for not selling the team’s top assets this summer. The Rossoneri turned down an offer of €50 million from PSG last week for defender Thiago Silva. Moreover, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will also remain at the San Siro despite being targeted by top European clubs. Allegri said: “It’s a great present that Berlusconi has given me and the fans. This is proof that the club has no intention to dismantle the team.”

Bendtner: Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner has been banned for one competitive fixture and fined €100,000 by UEFA after he lowered his shorts after scoring in the Euro 2012 clash with Portugal. Bendtner, 24, was found guilty of improper conduct after he revealed the logo of a betting company on his underpants in the match on June 13.

QPR signings: QPR manager Mark Hughes continued his building plans for next season with the double signing of striker Andrew Johnson and defender Ryan Nelsen on free transfers yesterday. Hughes worked with former England frontman Johnson, 31, during their time at Fulham, while Nelson will sign on at Loftus Road following the end of his contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

Hooligans nabbed: Polish police said they had detained 72 Russian football fans suspected of hooliganism as a preventative measure ahead of Saturday’s Greece-Russia Euro 2012 match. The decision came after clashes erupted earlier in the week between Polish and Russia fans ahead of the highly-charged 1-1 draw between co-hosts Poland and Russia, which saw a couple of dozen injuries and close to 200 arrests.
