Bielsa: Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelo Bielsa has agreed a contract extension which will keep him with the Spanish club until June 2013. The Argentine won a legion of admirers over the 2011/12 season for guiding the Basque team to the finals of both the Europa League and the Copa del Rey, as well as a 10th-placed finish in La Liga.

Vertonghen: Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is hopeful a deal will be completed for Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen, 25, but says nothing has been finalised yet. “Jan is a terrific passer and versatile too. He can play at the heart of defence but also plays at left-back. I hope a deal is done but I don’t think it’s quite finished yet,” Redknapp said.

Gago: Roma have not taken their option to sign midfielder Fernando Gago who is now heading back to his club Real Madrid. Gago arrived on loan last year and Roma had a clause to make the move permanent by paying €7m by June 1. However, the club decided to let that deadline pass with no payment.

Hummels: Germany defender Mats Hummels has committed his future to Borussia Dortmund by signing a new five-year contract. The 23-year-old follows the examples of Felipe Santana, Patrick Owomoyela and Mitchell Langerak in agreeing a new deal.

Pogba: Paul Pogba is on the verge of completing his move from Manchester United to Juventus. The out-of-contract midfielder has rejected United’s offer of a renewal and Tuttosport claimed the 19-year-old will join Juve this week.

Jones: Talks between Swansea and Wigan assistant boss Graeme Jones have broken down. Swansea were given permission to speak to Jones over the managerial vacancy following Brendan Rodgers’ departure to Liverpool. Jones, 42, was targeted by Swansea in 2010, before Rodgers was eventually appointed.
