RANGERS: Rangers’ appeal against a £160,000 fine and 12-month transfer embargo imposed by the Scottish FA has been rejected by an Appellate Tribunal. The decision will come as a crushing blow to the consortium headed by former Sheffield United chief executive Charles Green who had an offer to buy the club accepted last Sunday.

GUARIN: Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin has been transferred to Inter from FC Porto on a definitive basis for an €11m fee, the Portuguese champions announced. Guarin joined Inter on loan in January and made six appearances.

OWEN: Michael Owen is set to leave Manchester United after revealing he will not be offered a new contract. The 32-year-old, whose deal expires this summer, has announced that the club will not be renewing his terms. Owen wrote: “The manager informed me on Tuesday that the club would not be offering me a new contract.”

REJA: Lazio coach Edoardo Reja said yesterday that he has now definitely quit his job. “I have quit. Yes, I can confirm it,' Reja said. “My adventure with Lazio stops here. The president Claudio Lotito asked me to stay but I had already come to a decision and I am not the type of person who changes his mind.”

RACISM: The family of England winger Theo Walcott has vowed not to travel to Euro 2012 after voicing fears they may be targeted for racist abuse by hooligans in Ukraine. Walcott’s brother Ashley revealed that he and his father Don would not be following England during their group matches in Kiev and Donetsk next month because of safety concerns for their safety.

MIKEL: Nigeria have left Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi out of their squad for a series of World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month. Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has called for Mikel to declare his readiness to feature for the team. Mikel has yet to play for the Super Eagles since Keshi took charge.
