Partizan: Serbian champions Partizan Belgrade won a record fifth successive league title and their 24th overall with three games to spare after yesterday’s 4-0 win at struggling Borac Cacak. The victory left Partizan 12 points clear of traditional city rivals Red Star and gave their Israeli manager Avram Grant the first taste of success since he left Chelsea after guiding them to the Champions League final in 2008.

In Portugal: Portuguese Premier League club Uniao Leiria took to the pitch with only eight players for their match against Feirense yesterday after 16 squad members submitted collective resignation letters over delays in salary payments. Portugal’s professional football players’ union said on Saturday that the resignations meant the match would not take place but Leiria managed to scrape together a team. Feirense went on to win the match 4-0.

Pavlyuchenko: Lokomotiv Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko will be sidelined for about 10 days with a leg injury but will recover in time for Euro 2012. The 30-year-old Russia international, who had to quit Saturday’s game against Anzhi Makhachkala in the second half after pulling a muscle, will miss Lokomotiv’s match against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday.

In Nigeria: The assistant coach and a defender of visiting soccer club Ocean Boys were taken to hospital in serious condition after being attacked in the dressing room ahead of a league game with local side Sharks. Two other team members were bruised and bloodied in the attack, they said. Officials said assistant coach Timi Akosubo and defender Anthony Nwodo were in a serious condition. The Premier League game was called off.

Benaglio: Diego Benaglio has penned a new five-year contract with Wolfsburg, extending his stay at the club to almost to a decade. The Switzerland number one arrived in Wolfsburg in 2007 and he still had over a year left to run on his previous deal, but he said he did not hesitate to commit himself to a new deal which will keep him with the Wolves until 2017.
