Rigg: QPR yesterday appointed Manchester City’s Mike Rigg as the club’s new technical director. The 43-year-old has held a similar role at the Etihad Stadium since June 2008, but has opted to leave the position in order to link up with the west Londoners.

Frankfurt: Eintracht Frankfurt will join Greuther Fuerth in the Ger-man league next season following their 3-0 win over Alemannia Aachen late Monday. Frankfurt’s victory puts them back in the Bun-desliga at the first attempt having been relegated last season.

Cologne: Werner Spinner has been elected as the new president of Cologne, beating off the challenge of rival and former Cologne player Karl-Heinz Thielen. Spinner replaces Wolfgang Overath, who stepped down last November, although he has only been given a one-year mandate after receiving 91.4% of the vote at an extraordinary general meeting.

Lafferty: Rangers have confirmed striker Kyle Lafferty has been suspended for two weeks amid reports of a dispute with manager Ally McCoist. The club would not expand on the reasons for the punishment but reports claimed he had failed to report for Saturday’s league clash against Hearts.

Genoa: Genoa have been ordered to play their final home games of the season behind closed doors after rioting fans stopped Sunday’s match against Siena to make players remove their jerseys. Lega Calcio ruled that fans will not be allowed to attend Genoa’s upcoming games against Cagliari and Palermo after they held up Sunday’s match for 45 minutes. The football authority also banned 11 fans from attending further matches.
