Hernandez: Uruguay striker Abel Hernandez yesterday signed a contract extension keeping him at Palermo for another four years. The 21-year-old joined the Sicilian side from Penarol in 2009.

Morosini: Udinese said they will look after Piermario Morosini’s sick sister who relied on the player for support. Morosini was under contract with the Serie A club and on loan at Livorno when he died on Saturday. The 25-year-old lost both his parents before turning 18 and his disabled brother committed suicide. The only remaining family member is his sister, who is also gravely ill.

Blanc link: Andrea Stramaccioni may be doing a fine job as interim coach at Inter but reports are rife that Laurent Blanc, the France boss, will be the Nerazzurri coach next season. According to L’Equipe, Inter boss Massimo Moratti is renewing his interest in Blanc who played for Inter between 1999 and 2001.

Becks’ goal: David Beckham was on target as Los Angeles Galaxy lifted themselves off the bottom of the MLS West Conference with their second win of the season, 3-1 over Portland Timbers. The Timbers took the lead through Kris Boyd, but Landon Donovan levelled just before half-time before Juninho and Beckham turned the game in the Galaxy’s favour late on.

Saviola winner: Javier Saviola scored the winner with seven minutes remaining as Benfica beat Gil Vicente 2-1 in the Portuguese Cup final late Saturday. Rodrigo Moreno had opened the scoring for Benfica after half an hour before Ze Luis equalised with 12 minutes to go.
