Messi: Lionel Messi set a new all-time scoring record for Barcelona of 234 goals last night when he completed a hat-trick in Barcelona’s 5-3 win over Granada. Messi earlier equalled the all-time record, held by the legendary Cesar Rodriguez, when he scored his 232nd goal when netting his side’s second goal of the match. He then lobbed Granada's 'keeper Julio Cesar in the 67th minute to put Barca 3-2 ahead and, after Cristian Tello made it 4-2 for the hosts, Messi added a fifth on 86 minutes.

Hilario: Chelsea reserve goalkeeper Hilario, 36, has signed a new one-year contract extension. Hilario, whose previous contract was set to expire after this season, joined Chelsea in 2006 and has since made 39 appearances for the London club, including 18 clean sheets.

Schweini: Bayern Munich will be without Bastian Schweinsteiger for today’s German Cup semi-final at Moenchengladbach as he continues to recover from injury. Schweinsteiger, 27, tore ankle ligaments on February 8 and although he played 20 minutes in the 7-1 hammering of Hoffenheim a fortnight ago, he is still re-finding his fitness.

Marilungo: Atalanta have suffered a blow with the news that striker Guido Marilungo will be out for the rest of the season. Marilungo missed Sunday’s goalless draw at Inter with a knee problem. Tests done on the Italian striker since have revealed a torn cross-ligament in his right knee. The 22-year-old will undergo surgery in the next few days and will be sidelined for five months.

Herrman: B. M’gladbach midfielder Patrick Herrman is set for a return in his side’s German cup semi-final against Bayern Munich today, a month after fracturing his collar bone. “I’ve got through training without any problems and I don’t feel any pain,” said the 21-year-old.

Banana probe: Russian chiefs yesterday launched an investigation into an apparent racially-motivated attack on Anzhi Makhachkala’s defender Chris Samba at the end of Sunday’s game at Lokomotiv Moscow. Russian Premiership security chief Alexander Meitin said the probe would involve scouring security camera and video footage of the crowd to find the culprit.
