Havelange: Joao Havelange, the former president of FIFA, has been admitted to a Rio hospital following a serious infection. A treating physician, Joao Mansur Filho, described the 95-year-old Havelange’s condition as “serious”. Havelange was put in a coronary care unit and was receiving intravenous antibiotic treatment.

Stevanovic: The Ghana Football Association yesterday announced they had sacked coach Goran Stevanovic. Serbian Stevanovic, who was appointed in January 2011, appears to have paid the price for the Black Stars’ failure to reach the final of the Africa Cup last month.

Panucci: Former Italy defender Christian Panucci has claimed he will take over as Palermo coach. The 38-year-old revealed he was set to replace current boss Bortolo Mutti, who has come under fire following a poor run that has seen the Sicilians win just once since the turn of the year. “It is true,” Panucci said. “I will be in the Palermo technical area. The agreement is only lacking a signature.”

Boy bailed: A 10-year-old boy was released on bail after being arrested for kicking an opponent in the head during a school football match in Hong Kong. The violent incident sparked an ugly race row after a video was posted online showing the Caucasian boy kicking his 12-year-old Chinese opponent during an ill-tempered match a week ago.

Lotina: Villarreal have appointed Miguel Angel Lotina as their coach until the end of the season. The 54-year-old replaces Jose Molina, who was sacked on Sunday following the 1-0 defeat at Levante.
