Ramires: Chelsea received a piece of welcome news yesterday as Brazilian international midfielder Ramires signed a new five-year contract which ties him to the club till 2017. The 24-year-old made his 50th appearance for the club in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by West Brom.

Guerrero: Paolo Guerrero was suspended for eight games yesterday by the German FA for his brutal foul on the VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper during his side Hamburg’s 4-0 home defeat on Saturday. The DFB’s disciplinary commission took the decision after reviewing video images of the incident which reveal the 28-year-old striker launching himself at goalkeeper Sven Ulreich’s knees when he didn’t have the ball.

Australia: Australia will play Scotland in a friendly in Edinburgh in August. The match will take place at Easter Road Stadium on August 15. Both teams will be using the match as preparation for their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Gyan: Sunderland have received a bid from a Qatari club for striker Asamoah Gyan. A club in the Gulf state, whose identity was not disclosed, have tabled an offer for the 26-year-old , who is currently on a season-long loan deal in the United Arab Emirates with Al-Ain.
