Chelsea Stadium: Chelsea’s attempt to buy back the freehold of Stamford Bridge as the first step of an eventual move to a new 60,000-seat stadium ended in failure yesterday. The body of fans which own shares in Stamford Bridge, only 61.6 per cent of 5,796 voters were in favour of selling the ground back to the club. That left Chelsea 13.4 per cent short of the necessary 75 per cent threshold needed for the sale.
QPR: QPR officials denied reports that three players had given evidence against John Terry in the FA’s investigation into allegations of racist abuse involving the Chelsea captain. Rangers trio Paddy Kenny, Clint Hill and Shaun Derry had all spoken to FA investigators probing claims that Terry racially abused QPR defender Anton Ferdinand. Tests confirmed the injury, a recurrence of a previous problem, and will now miss tomorrow’s crunch clash against traditional rivals Juventus.
World Cup: Brazilian Sports Minister Orlando Silva, the man who was tasked with organising the 2014 World Cup, resigned on Wednesday to face corruption allegations, one day after the launch of a formal probe. Silva has been accused of involvement in kickback schemes through social programs funded by his ministry.
