Been: Belgian champions RC Genk announced the appointment of Mario Been as their new manager. The former Feyenoord coach succeeds Franky Vercauteren, the Belgian who quit Genk this month to join Al-Jazira in the United Arab Emirates.

Montenegro: West Ham United have signed Paraguayan striker Brian Montenegro on loan. The 18-year-old has passed a medical and agreed a season-long deal from Uruguayan club Deportivo Maldonado.

Pay back: Arsenal have reached for their chequebook in response to Sunday’s 8-2 mauling at Old Trafford. The Gunners confirmed yesterday that they have offered to cover the cost of a ticket for a future Arsenal away game for every one of the club’s supporters who attended the match as part of the official away ticket allocation.

Derry: QPR midfielder Shaun Derry has penned a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club until summer 2013. The 33-year-old played an integral role as Rangers won the Champion-ship last season.

Poulsen: Liverpool have reached an agreement with French side Evian for the transfer of Christian Poulsen. The Danish midfielder had arrived at Anfield with a strong reputation but failed to make an impact.

Elia: Eljero Elia had a medical in Turin last night as he closed in on a move to Juventus. The 24-year-old Hamburg winger was granted permission to leave the Holland team yesterday for negotiations.

Trezeguet: David Trezeguet yesterday signed with Bani Yas, the UAE side announced. The 33-year-old put pen to paper on a contract with an annual salary of €1.7m.
