The health authorities will be launching an investigation into the water quality of the pools at Splash and Fun Park following reports of contamination.

The weekly newspaper KullĦadd reported on Sunday that the water at the popular Baħar Iċ-Ċagħaq fun park was contaminated and that the health authorities found traces of E.Coli, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning symptoms.

The paper said that the park was not asked to shut down. Times of Malta asked the Health Ministry whether tests had been carried out and, if so, what was the outcome.

A spokesman said that the superintendent of public health had been instructed to look into the allegations. The superintendent would investigate the outcome of tests by the Environmental Health Directorate, which carried out routine inspections in areas frequented by the public.

We guarantee that the water at the complex is safe

The investigation should not take long to conclude, the spokesman said. Meanwhile, Splash and Fun Park management denied that the pools were contaminated. In a statement uploaded on the park’s Facebook page, the management wrote: “We guarantee that the water at the complex is safe and complies with all regulations set by the local health authorities.

“We ensure that the water quality in all of our pools is of a satisfactory and high standard. The source of all water is reliable and controlled so as to ensure quality and standards.”

Management also uploaded photos featuring the results of water quality tests carried out in the various pools of the park.

The results, dated August 27, showed that the water quality was satisfactory.
