Fabio Spiteri, of Agones Sfc, recently competed in the Abu Dhabi International triathlon where 2,400 athletes, divided into various categories, were on the start line.

The entry field featured a few popular faces, including British Olympic gold medallists Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee.

Setting off in the seventh wave (age-group 40-45), Spiteri had to cover distances of 1.5km swim, 100km cycling and 10km run.

Out of the calm waters in front of Emirates Palace after a personal best time, Spiteri went on to cover the cycling leg on the Abu Dhabi highway in an average of 39km/hr. Spiteri ran the 10km distance, in scorching heat, in 42 minutes.

He was eighth overall (excluding the professionals) and second among 359 starters in his age-group.

In Abu Dhabi, Spiteri was backed by the sponsorships of Garmin, Hebe ice watch, Go & Fun and Maxinutrition.
