The Malta Tourism Authority issued a clarification pointing out the Italian tourist’s average spending of €393 quoted by yesterday’s article We Are Here for the Booze and the Beauties in Times of Malta concerned package expenditure, not the total spent on holiday.

The total expenditure of Italians averaged €518 during the period January-June.

Although still the lowest, the MTA said the Italian market had a shorter average stay, which was 4.6 nights per person in the first half of 2013.

This led to a per capita per day expenditure of €112.60, which was €2.47 higher than the overall average expenditure per day of €110.13.
