The Nationalist Party yesterday launched a competition in which the winner gets to spend a day with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi... and win a signed iPad 3.

Applicants have to submit an innovative idea they would want to implement as Prime Minister and choose a team of friends to play the role of “ministers”.

The winner will spend a day with Dr Gonzi, even attending all of his top-level meetings, including Cabinet.

The entire day will be filmed and produced into a TV feature showing what happens behind the scenes as the Prime Minister goes about his business.

“We will be using the popular reality show format... like The Kardashians, but instead of a day in the life of Kim Kardashian it will be a day in the life of the Prime Minister,” said Matthew Calleja, a young PN volunteer helping to coordinate the activity.

People of all ages can apply on www.pmforaday.com. The PN will shortlist three candidates and a team of journalists will select the winner who will spend June 19 with the Prime Minister.

PN general secretary Paul Borg Olivier said the event would give people the chance to live a day in the shoes of Dr Gonzi and see the challenges faced when having to run a country.

This is the latest interactive initiative being launched by the PN following the website www.mychoice.pn, the live web conference with Dr Gonzi and the Facebook pages that will be launched by Justice Minister Chris Said in the coming days.

Dr Borg Olivier said that all the initiatives were aimed at bringing people closer to the party and generating ideas.

“Your smallest idea could be our biggest one,” he said.

Asked if the idea suggested by the winner would be implemented on the day, Dr Borg Olivier said it depended on its feasibility. “It’s easy to suggest reducing the water and electricity rates, for example, but it is harder to do,” he said.
