The record number of young participants – 47 – at the Inter Schools Chess Tournament, an annual event held recently at Stella Maris College, got a special treat when International Chess Grandmaster Gundavaa Bayarsaikhan visited the venue during competition.

Bayarsaikhan, 25, was in Malta for a short visit.

He followed most of the moves by the young hopefuls and also talked with the players at the college hall.

At the end of the tournament, which was played over five rounds and lasted almost three hours, Bayarsaikhan distributed trophies and medals to the winners in the various categories contested on the day.
