Former Enemalta chairman Tancred Tabone, who is being charged in court over the oil purchases scandal, must appear before the House Public Accounts Committee.

The order was issued yesterday by Speaker Anġlu Farrugia who noted Mr Tabone should not be expected to incriminate himself. The ruling followed a request by PAC interim chairman Jason Azzopardi who, on January 15, asked for guidance after Mr Tabone’s legal team advisers insisted he should keep silent in view of the ongoing court proceedings.

Dr Farrugia quoted from the legal team’s correspondence, from verbal exchanges when Mr Tabone and his team appeared before the PAC and also from Erskine May.
