A young Spanish holidaymaker found himself in the dock yesterday and admitted to causing €842 worth of damage to a car in a drunken incident which he could not remember.

David Albero Coll, 21, was on his second night in Malta when he got so drunk that he decided to attack a Daihatsu Terios parked in St Julian’s on Saturday night.

Police Inspector Darryl Borg said the police had received information about vandals attacking cars and on investigating they found Mr Coll near the car and very drunk.

Mr Coll told the police that he could not remember what had happened but fully cooperated with them during the investigation, the inspector said.

Standing in the dock wearing a t-shirt and shorts, Mr Coll told the court he could not remember his address either but that the inspector knew where he was living while in Malta.

He admitted to causing €842 worth of damage to the car, breaching the peace and being drunk in public.

Inspector Borg said a conditional discharge for the accused would be satisfactory. Legal aid lawyer Noel Bartolo agreed with the suggestion.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Scibberas conditionally discharged him for 18 months and gave him 24 hours to pay for the damage. He is leaving on Thursday.
