They both started performing at a young age, albeit in very different countries and in very different settings, and yet teenage Maltese singer Sophie and New York artist Corina Brouder have teamed up to work together. Brouder was in Malta last week to work on a new song penned by none other than 17-year-old Sophie.

According to reports on music-news.com, “the song is a sumptuous ballad” and was written for a singer with unqiue vocal skills. Brouder is quoted as saying “I thought the song was beautiful when I first heard it and would love to have the chance to record it”.

Brouder was discovered by the legendary Bond composer John Barry and sang on a track he wrote with Tim Rice for the Swept From The Sea film soundtrack in 1997.

Apart from her solo career, the American artist of Irish descent has also performed all over Europe as a guest on David Hasselhoff’s tour. In 2006, she appeared on season one of America’s Got Talent.

Working with Brouder is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring pop star Sophie who, despite her young age, is already making significant steps in other areas of the music industry besides performing.

She is working on her own album, which will be released at a later date through British independent label Thru The Mill.

Label manager Giles Squire said he feels “this could be just the start of Sophie writing for others. We were very impressed when we first heard the song and when you consider the other tracks Corina will be recording are John Barry songs this is no mean achievement.”
